Paradise Symphony Orchestra - "The Carnival’s in Town"
“The Carnival’s in Town!”
Dr. Robert Bowman returns to the stage to perform one of the symphonic repertoire’s most towering works - the “Piano Concerto in A minor,” Op. 16, composed by Edvard Grieg.
Erik Satie’s alluring “Three Gymnopédies” will enchant the audience with gentle, lilting melodies set about unconventional yet charming harmonic progressions. These short, atmospheric pieces are written in 3/4 meter, each sharing a comparable theme and structure. Collectively, the “Gymnopédies” are regarded as the precursors to modern ambient music.
Camille St. Saens’ enduring and beloved “Carnival of the Animals” takes listeners on a 14-movement tour sonically representing the lion, hens, roosters, wild asses, turtles, elephant, kangaroos, fish, cuckoo, birds, and of course the always-cherished swan.
The concert will also feature this year’s two winners of the Mr. & Mrs. George Martin Young Artist Competition. The winner of the Scholastic Division, Jonathan Culbreath will favor the audience with another giant of the piano repertoire: the first movement of Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto #5” Op. 73. Chris Navarrete is the winner of the new Collegiate Division. He will join with the PSO for his rendition of the first movement of Johann Baptist Georg Neruda’s “Trumpet Concert in Eb.”
The eclectic program is sure to pique the interest of everyone in attendance!
