Info night for new public charter high school
Families from throughout Butte County can "discover the difference" offered to students at Achieve Charter High at an informational meeting on Jan. 18 at 6:30 pm in the gym at Paradise Alliance Church (6491 Clark Road, Paradise). Achieve Charter High, a tuition-free public school, opens in August 2018 with its first class of 120 incoming ninth graders from throughout the area. ACHS builds upon the proven success of Achieve Charter School, which has some of the highest test scores in the region. ACHS will educate students to be both college- and career-ready with an emphasis on personalized learning, ongoing evaluation of progress toward student goals, as well as choices in applied technology or entrepreneur pathways. Project-based learning and career exploration will be integrated into all subject areas. Attending advisory class with the same teacher for four years in this small school environment ensures students will be known and supported as they prepare for their futures beyond high school. The daily advisory class provides a consistent adult mentor and contact point for parents, as well as providing opportunities to develop positive peer relationships and academic skill sets. If more than 120 students apply to ACHS by Jan. 31, 2018, enrollment will be based on a lottery to be held February 1, 2018; applications are available at several community locations as well as online (ACHS Paradise.org). Applications must be returned to the Achieve K-8 office.
